6 Skin Care Myths We are Happy to Bust for You: Having the wrong information can cause real problems when it comes to caring for your skin. Here are 6 skin care myths we are happy to bust for you.
1. Natural Skin Products Are Always Best
Sticking the word ‘natural’ on a skin product can be a powerful marketing strategy, but it doesn’t mean that it is going to be the right choice for your skin. In fact, there are many natural ingredients (e.g. fruit) that can trigger allergies, and there is also the problem that ‘natural’ products tend to have a shorter shelf-life.
2. Using a Sunbed before Going on Holiday Prevents Sunburn
Building a base tan using a sunbed isn’t going to prevent you from getting sunburnt. The only effective way to protect your skin is to limit the amount of time you are exposed to the sun and to use plenty of sun cream. Using a sun bed is damaging to your skin, just like lying in the sun, so it is best to avoid it.
3. Popping Pimples Gets Rid of them Faster
The benefit of popping pimples is the most persistent of all the skin care myths. The problem is that when you do this, you are likely pushing dirt deeper into the pores, and this means future outbreaks of pimples.
4. Expensive Cosmetics Are the Best
Buying the most expensive cosmetics can give a false sense of security when it comes to looking after your skin. You need to judge each of these products on a case by case basis, and don’t just assume that spending more money means better for your skin.
5. Blackheads Mean You Need to Scrub Harder
The idea that blackheads are caused by dirty skin is a myth and scrubbing your skin harder can be damaging. Most blackheads occur due to excess natural oils clogging the pores and not because of dirt.
6. Drinking Plenty of Water is Enough to Ensure Great Looking Skin
Drinking plenty of water is a good thing to do for your general health, but this is unlikely to be enough to ensure you enjoy great looking skin.
