Common Ethnic Skin Misconceptions
A common misconception is that darker skin is oilier than light skin. This is not the case as oil is just more noticeable on dark skin. Dark skin is like light skin where it can range from dry to combination to oily skin.
Skin Cancer Immunity
A common myth about ethnic skin is that it is immune to skin cancer. This is absolutely not true. Darker skin has more protection from the sun than light skin because it contains more pigment (melanin). Darker skin carries a natural protection of SPF10 but that alone does not provide complete protection from the sun or prevent skin cancer. Dark-skinned people also need to be cautious of the sun and its adverse effects.
