Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, which affects the face and is characterized by severe redness in the skin. The symptoms of Rosacea vary a great deal from person to person and dictate the way it should be treated.

Rosacea Symptoms

Rosacea normally occurs on the face and is recognised by redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead, however it can also occur on the chest, neck, scalp or ears.

People who are always red in the face or more prone to redness when they are blushing are more likely to develop Rosacea. It is important to treat it as early as possible, as skin bumps and pimples can occur if left alone.

Rosacea sufferers may also get stinging red bumps, which can be confused for Acne. They often feel a burning or itching sensation on their skin. As a result, small blood vessels can become visible on the skin surface.

Other tell tale signs of Rosacea can be a type of facial swelling known as Edema or Plaques, which are raised red patches.

Rosacea sufferers can develop Rhinophyma, which is when excess tissue grows around the nose causing the skin to swell and a bumpy texture. Some suffer from Ocular Rosacea where the eyes become watery or bloodshot and swelling to the eyelids, which can lead to potential sight problems.
