Eczema treatments in Cranford

What Is Eczema?

Eczema is an inflammation of the epidermis (outer layer) of the skin, causing symptoms of swelling, redness, crusting and pain amongst others. Eczema which begins at a young age and is carried through life is known as atopic eczema and is one of the most common forms.

Eczema Triggers

Eczema can be either allergic or genetic, but no matter what type you have, a flare-up of your eczema can be triggered by common household things such as animal fur, harsh soaps, or even washing too much. Trying to identify and eliminate these things can help to reduce the symptoms of your existing eczema.

Eczema Treatments

Although there is no cure currently available to permanently abolish the symptoms of eczema, there are a number of treatments to help reduce the symptoms you may experience. Testing to find out the cause of your eczema is always the first step, but depending on the severity of your condition, your doctor may prescribe either topical (applied through the skin), or systemic (taken as a tablet) medications to help reduce your symptoms, as well as moisturiser to help lessen the cracking and bleeding often associated with this condition.
